Sunday 10th March 2019 - Barnaby Robson and Yamaha Clarinet Event
It was a tremendous sound when all 35+ clarinet players started playing the new arrangement of Ernest Tomlinson's English Folk Dances in a massed play towards the end of the event on Sunday.
The day started with a fantastic Masterclass, led by Barnaby Robson (Professor of Clarinet at the Royal College of Music), with two students working on prepared pieces, and then a quartet masterclass with Cirrus Clarinet Quartet. The two students were wonderfully accompanied by John Keys, one of them had their first go through with the piano in the masterclass. Both students responded well to the advice given and immediate progress was evident.
Yamaha produced several beautiful instruments for the day, including a beautiful Hamilton plated top-of-the-range YCLCSG, and an amazing soprano E-flat, played on the day by Nottingham's Nigel Hinson (on his birthday no less!).
Windblowers team were on hand to offer any advice regarding instruments and accessories, and Dave also joined in for the massed play on his stunning Contra-Bass clarinet.
A good time was had by all participants, many of whom asked when the next one was to be!
Special thanks to Barnaby, Jeremy & Stuart (Yamaha), John Keys and all the masterclass players.
