Bb # ----- A #3438 (CC763) REDUCED PRICE
A beautiful pair of vintage clarinets circa 1929 & a piece of British clarinet history!
These clarinets were previously owned (before their current owner), by eminent soloist Alan Hacker (& before that Nicholas Shackleton), who apparently did record on them.
They have at some stage been expertly re-silver plated & overhauled with leather pads & are to this day beautifully airtight. Both these instruments are standard Boehm system with an additional Forked Bb key on the top joint. A ring is fitted to the L/H 3rd finger which closes the open Bb key (between the 1st & 2nd rings) to provide a forked Bb, useful in arpeggios.
The Bb Clarinet
The Bb serial number is unfortunately unreadable but is clearly the same vintage as the A. It has a pinned & filled split in the top joint which has been well repaired & doesn’t go through to the bore. Both top joint tenons have been sleeved. There are 2 cracks in the bell that have also been repaired & not surprisingly they have gone through to the bore. The barrel is not original but an E13 65 barrel shortened to 64mm.
The A Clarinet
There are no cracks on the A clarinet & like the Bb both tenons on the top joint have been sleeved.
This pair of clarinets come complete in a Howarth double case with cover. No mouthpieces are supplied.
